Two Old Codgers

How the World strikes us

CLIMATE CHANGE
I’ve got it! The real solution, it might take few years, even generations but it is the answer to the problem that is exercising everyones mind, at least in the Western World, if you are struggling to survive in a Third Word Country you will have other things on your mind such as how to live another day.
Population
The consensus seems to be that changes to melting ice caps, rising ocean levels, weather extremes, water shortages and a host of horrors facing the planet is down to us, the human race. The problem is obvious and the answer is simple - there are simply too many of us.

And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.".

By heck that worked. Take a look at this graph of World population. From under one billion in 1750 to over seven billion in about 2020. Not only that but in 1750 we would not have electricity as we know it, steam power was in its infancy, no motor cars, high infant mortality and lack of medical knowledge. That’s the problem, how about the solution?

Simple. Reduce the number of people but how? Here are some suggestions. Would you vote for any of them? (I hope I have the maths right!)

1 Voluntary euthanasia. Society is, in the main, against suicide but there are those who would choose to die rather than life a life of suffering.
Headache

2 Birth control. We pour aid into underdeveloped countries, improving standards of living and doing so increase birth rates. Perhaps we should actively promote birth control.

3. War. It is estimated that about 200m million people died through war in the 20th century. A really
BIG war would sort it

4. Plague. The Black Death killed 50 million people in the 14th century, or 60 per cent of Europe’s entire population at that time.

5. Let nature take care of it. There are historic records found in arctic ice cores of cataclysmic climate changes which took place over relatively short time spells.

6. Stop trying to extend human life, rather let's try to improve the quality if life.
Oldest person
Would you like to live to be a hundred and twenty?

7. Recognise that death is an inescapable part of existence rather than something to be avoided.

In the UK there are 27.2 million households with an average household size of 2.4. We are told we need 350 thousand new homes. The UK population is 70 million give or take a million or so, reduce the population by about 800,000 and there is no housing shortage. Remove the 600,000 people over the age of 90 and that almost does it! And before the professional protesters and political correctness brigade jump all over me for being ageist, that includes me.
