Two Old Codgers

How the World strikes us

We are constantly bombarded with advice about how important it is to exercise. I have to admit the fittest part of my body are the two fingers I use on the computer keyboard.

Keep fit

With this in mind I decided to do a bit of research to see if there was a relatively simple way to improve my fitness. I turned to our old friend Google and entered ‘exercise’. It gave me 1,570,000,000 results in three quarters of a second. I narrowed it down to one entry for the over sixties. These are the instructions.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

Potato sacks

With a 5lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a Full minute, and then relax.

Each day you'll find that you can hold this position For just a bit longer. After a couple or weeks, move up to 10lb potato bags. Then try 50lb potato bags and eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-b potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight For more than a full minute. (l'm at this level).

After you Feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.
